Born Twice - Die Once .... Born Once - Die Twice
by Perry injesus taught that we must die unto ourselves, and allow the holy spirit to take up residence within us.
some people get saved by simply inviting jesus into their hearts, to be the lord of their life.
this serves as a countering force within the born-again christian to counterbalance the will of the flesh, which is still unsaved in this life and destined for destruction in imitation of our lord himself.. attempting to live the christian life without having this spirit within you is a waste of time at the minimum, and dangerous on the downside.

it's like you pick up a stone and there are hundreds underneath - in the end it is a question of what you want - one stone or hundreds. I prefer hundreds, even millions
I'm so confused

Do you still believe in the concept of absolute truth?
by JW_Rogue injws very much believe that there is an absolute truth and of course, they are the only ones who have it lol.
how about now though do you still believe that absolute truths exist?
or is everything subjective?

I believe that individual claims are either true or they are not true. They are either an accurate representation of reality or they are not.
And used in everyday speech "Absolute Truth" usually address' the confidence in a claim. Not the accuracy of a claim.

Origins of ISIS
by Coded Logic inso somebody asked me what the origins of isis were and after doing some research this is what i came up with.
but as the identity of these groups really overlaps it's hard to know where one stops and another begins.
can somebody fact check me please?.

So somebody asked me what the origins of ISIS were and after doing some research this is what I came up with. But as the identity of these groups really overlaps it's hard to know where one stops and another begins. Can somebody fact check me please?
ISIS was an immediate offshoot of the Al-Nursa Front (aka al-Qaeda in Syria) and first came to power in 2011 in the Al-Raqqah Governorate - which is on the Northern border of Syria. ISIS didn't move into Iraq until January 3rd of 2014 when Al-Qaeda and ISIS clashed in the North East of Syria resulting in 1,069 deaths in just a couple of days. By February ISIS was rolling full steam into Iraq.
Of course, all of this is bit nebulous because Al-Queda in Iraq already existed at the time - which was a part of of the umbrella organisation "Islamic State" that ISIS (Islamic State In Syria) identified with. But ISIS first came to power in northern Syria and THEN overthrew it's affiliate in Iraq.
And Al-Queda's goes all the way back to Bin Laden who founded it in 1988 - who was in turn carrying the mantel of the Muslim Brotherhood from the 1950s, who were inspired by Wahhabism, etc. etc. etc. -

Does the idea that there is one "correct" way of looking at situations or aspects of the world deserve respect?
-SBFNo. There are multiple methods for making determinations about reality. When our methods are consistently effective and/or we have multiple different methods all converging on the same answer - then we can have high confidence in the accuracy of any single conclusion.
But more broadly speaking, we have to actually start with the premise that we care about what's true and what's knowable. If a person doesn't care whether or not their beliefs correspond with reality than I certainly wouldn't "respect" their worldview.

Islam is a religion of peace (2)
by Coded Logic inin behalf of the horrific events of saturday night, i just wanted to take a moment to remind everyone that islam is a religion of peace.
it doesn’t matter that the quran explicitly says that homosexuals should be stoned to death (7:84) - it’s still a religion of peace.
and it doesn’t matter that the scriptures say that all gay men should be killed (sunan 1:152) - islam doesn’t in anyway condone violence.. it doesn’t matter that every mainstream imam calls homosexuality a sin "worse the adultery" - it’s not a religion of bigotry.. it doesn’t matter that 61% of muslims in the uk think gay acts should be made illegal - islam has nothing against the gay community.. it doesn’t matter that countries with sharia law actively persecute the lgbt community - islam is all about peace and love.

Scholars also, after in depth research, do not think Islam is responsible for any more violence than other religions/cultures/ states.
- Ruby456If we're going to have a productive conversation I'm going to have to insist you be a little more disciplined in the use of your terms.
We're discussing the fact that the behavior of a jihadist in gay bars in the US or newspapers in France is not that far removed from what orthodox Muslims advocate and practice in many parts of the world. Killing homosexuals and murdering infidels is the norm. And if you're just going to redefine the word "violence" so that anything that is sanctioned by the state is swept under the rug we're not going to be able to have a meaningful discussion here.
Muslims are motivated by their religion to kill people who don't follow their religion. And they have brutal punishments for petty crimes - like chopping off the hands of shoplifters.
Under your use of the term we could say that crime was very low under the Third Reich - as it is under most brutal authoritarian governments. But that doesn't mean that it was a good system of government. Or that the people who are advocating these barbaric punishments are somehow behaving in ways that are "less violent".

Protest
by Coded Logic inhad a great turn out today protesting against the baptist minister who praised the orlando massacre.
my best guess is there were around 1,200 of us there.
it was an entirely peaceful protest as we chanted "love conquers hate" and "we are orlando".

Had a great turn out today protesting against the Baptist Minister who praised the Orlando massacre. My best guess is there were around 1,200 of us there. It was an entirely peaceful protest as we chanted "Love conquers hate" and "We are Orlando". We also took a moment to read aloud the names of all forty nine victims. To hear their names carried in unison by a thousand voices was a really powerful and somber moment.
I also want to give a shout out to the neighboring North City Church who not only came out and protested with us but also opened up their church doors to anyone who wanted water or needed to use the restroom. I'll post a picture of me holding my sign and also a shot in which I tried to get the scale of how many of us there were but we circled 2/3rds of the building so it's hard to show.
